Day breaks as the Sun ascends. The War Against Evil and its destruction continue another day. Looking over the horizon and seeing nothing is the peace I enjoy. The temperature is comfortable now, and the world feels balanced. I momentarily revealed my inner thoughts. I like to call these moments my Brain Break.
We will spend the rest of the day preparing for the dance that happens every night with what is truly evil. Each of us has a mental image of evil. Before my time spent in the desert, I had a completely different opinion of what it looks like. I know the truth now, but you won’t understand until you see it for yourself. Evil isn’t in your closet or under your bed. You and I resemble evil. Evil lives within the human body, penetrating, deep and corrupting the soul. The only way to know is by looking into their eyes and seeing the emptiness. Compassion has vanished, peace is no longer desired.
As I inspect and clean my rifle and inspect my gear before laying down, I think back to the times that I have faced evil. Is it possible that we’re just destroying evil’s vessel instead of eradicating actual evil from Earth? I laugh to myself at how strange this sounds, but if I am wrong, then the problem is worse. It implies humans can commit terrible acts. How do you explain someone killing themselves and their 13-year-old daughter in a car bomb? Can an uncontrolled mother truly commit such an evil act? Knowing our job is eliminating evil, not humans, brings me peace. The question now is, are we doing it correctly?
